Biography

Jean-Yves Guionet was born on 2nd May 1943 at Le Perreux in Val de Marne. He graduated from the Fine Arts school in 1984, he turned towards empirical philosophy of sensualism (bordering impressionism, expressionism and lyrical abstraction, focusing on senses). Founder of the ATEXFO group, he is interested by aesthetics for lack of conceptual image. Jean-Yves Guionet teaches active painting where emotions and senses echo.

Jean-Yves Guionet's painting twists figurative and abstract art to highlight material and spontaneity. Indeed, initially he began with figurative art, but he later turned towards expressionist painting. Through color, he is able to trigger emotions in his paintings.

"Expressionists have given a lot of freedom to painters. It's important for me to be a gestural painter. I worked on nudes quite a lot but I don't spend much time with models. I use them as mediums to find the key features. What interests me is to find the forms through this, retain them without actually giving them a tangible form and this work combines movement, rhythm and color. It gives free rein to the imagination and makes room for freedom of expression".

Jean-Yves Guionet has done several personal exhibitions in Paris, Poitiers. He has also contributed to collective exhibitions in Parisian galleries.
