Presentation
Painter, draughtsman and sculptor, Jean-François Callo studied at Lorient's Ecole municipale des Beaux Arts, out of a love for drawing and sculpture. Gérard Gautron, his master in the painting studio, exerted a real fascination on him.
Most of his work is done on the motif, i.e. after a subject: a still life, a landscape or a person. He likes recurring situations, and uses various techniques to reproduce them ad infinitum.
When he works several times on the same subject from life, the result is never the same, since each moment is different. He gradually deepens his approach, striving for perfect purity. The subject sometimes loses its figurative aspect to gain in abstraction, giving it a more intimate aspect.
Jean-François Callo still lives and works in Lorient. He has been exhibiting his work since 1990.
