L'Outsider

Yann Le Berre aka L'Outsider was born in 1984. Attached to his native Brittany, he lives and works there today, more precisely in Pont-Aven. Brittany, land of entrepreneurs, of simplicity and proximity to nature, with superb landscapes is a great source of inspiration for L'Outsider as it may have been for other great French artists who will have participated in its fame.

In a very contemporary artistic practice, he was initiated at the age of 17 into the codes and techniques of graffiti - he was fascinated by the freedom and energy of this practice which invests the urban space as he pleases. His interest in craftsmanship and creation led him to join the Boulle School in Paris in 2006 where he studied cabinetmaking. At the same time, and since the 2000s, he has been painting. He develops a characteristic style shaped by architecture, graphics, contemporary art and broadens by the diversity of cultures, particularly Asian, which inspire him, through calligraphy.

The year 2015 marks a turning point as exciting as it is radical in the artistic practice of The Outsider; the color gradually disappears from his compositions, as does the lettering, revealing a painting synthesized in abstraction and close to constructivism where the observer can see emerging metaphysical questions. The Outsider remains very attached to the movement, to the dynamic of the gesture very present in graffiti, he decided to continue his research in the environment of his workshop after having done it in large frescoes in France, Ireland, Vietnam or still South Africa.
