Evgenija Koch was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and now lives and works in Hannover, Germany. She trained in drawing and painting at the Russian Academy of Arts, St. Petersburg, building on an earlier academic foundation in mechanical engineering — a background that continues to inform the precision and structure beneath her intuitive compositions.
Since 2000, she has worked in oil on canvas, developing a classical technique built on visible, deliberate brushstrokes. She has maintained an active professional studio practice since 2013. Her landscapes are not depictions of specific places but explorations of collective memory, disorientation, and belonging — shaped by the tension between her Russian origins and her life in Germany, and by the wider political present.
Koch's work is held in several corporate collections, including Toast Hannover, Endress+Hauser, Ingenico, and BVR, and has been shown internationally, including at Norton Rose Fulbright in Luxembourg (2026), Art Basel Miami, and SwissArtExpo Zürich.
Her artistic approach is best summarized in her own words: “I don't paint places. I paint the feeling of having been there before."
