Dorit Levinstein

Born in 1956 in Haifa, Israel, Dorit Levinstein is an internationally renowned contemporary Israeli sculptor and painter known for her painted bronze sculptures, monumental sculptures, and unique artistic language that blends painting, sculpture, figurative art, Pop Art , contemporary art, and organic abstraction. A 1978 graduate of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where she earned a degree in graphic design with a specialization in illustration, she continued her studies at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv. She taught art there between 1985 and 1988 before dedicating herself entirely to her artistic career.

From 1989 onwards, Dorit Levinstein developed a personal approach aimed at abolishing the boundaries between painting and sculpture. After an initial period devoted to classical bronze , then to works in stone and mixed media, she created her signature style: colorful linear sculptures in painted bronze or aluminum, constructed from a continuous line that traces figures, animals , flowers , popular icons, or typographic compositions in space. Each work is then hand-painted with geometric patterns and vibrant colors, reinforcing the sense of movement, lightness, and rhythm that characterizes her world.

Her work is influenced by Paul Cézanne , Antoni Gaudí, Gustav Klimt , Niki de Saint Phalle , the Pop Art artists, and Chinese philosophy, from which she retains the idea of a continuous movement connecting the artwork to its environment. Rejecting preparatory sketches, she creates her sculptures directly in space using an intuitive process that she likens to a true choreography of matter. This approach gives his works an immediately recognizable identity, where line becomes volume and color engages in dialogue with sculpture.

Dorit Levinstein's works are featured in numerous international galleries and are included in major private collections worldwide. Her monumental sculptures have been installed in public and private spaces in Israel, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, and many other countries. Her creations have been exhibited at the Royal Academy in London and in several prestigious hotels. In 2017, the exhibition "A Blue Conversation," organized with Eden Fine Art, presented around twenty sculptures at the Plaza Athénée in Paris, where her monumental works Renoir Dancers and La Cumparsita occupied the palace gardens. Her best-known collections include Characters, Animals, Flowers, Icons, Studying the Masters, Typography, and Monumentals, which demonstrate her ability to combine artistic references, popular culture, and formal experimentation.

In 1988, Dorit Levinstein received an Award of Excellence from the SoHo Gallery in New York, recognizing the quality of her work and marking a significant milestone in her career. Today, her work stands as a benchmark in contemporary sculpture, thanks to her mastery of painted bronze, her colorful aesthetic, her exploration of continuous line, movement, dance, the human figure, and color, making each of her sculptures an original synthesis of drawing, painting, and volume.
