Biography
Born in 1969 in Tokyo, Tomoo Gokita is a Japanese artist. He is most widely known for his surrealist compositions featuring individuals with their faces obscured. The pervasive anonymity of his subjects coupled with a monochrome palette creates an eerie, uncanny atmosphere. However, it was his charcoal and ink drawings which first brought his recognition in the late 1990s.
Exhibitions of Gokita's work have taken place in Tokyo, Los Angeles and New York. The acclaim of his paintings have earned them seven figures on the secondary market.
