Biography
Shiori Eda is a Japanese contemporary painter born in Tokyo in 1983, recognized for a body of work where figurative painting, symbolism, mythology, nature, interior landscapes, and existential questions meet. Graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts, where she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Oil Painting in 2008 and then a Master of Painting in 2010, she develops a unique practice blending technical mastery, poetic narration, and philosophical reflection. Her work is marked by a recurring iconography – mountains, oceans, volcanoes, vegetation, human figures, and animals – which composes dreamlike landscapes where memory, spirituality, and the relationship between human beings and their environment intersect.
Shiori Eda's universe draws from Japanese culture, foundational narratives, natural phenomena, and the great forces that shape life. Through an oil painting of great precision, she constructs compositions rich in symbols, where every element contributes to an open narration leaving room for interpretation. Her work explores the notions of transformation, balance, catastrophe, rebirth, and coexistence between man and nature, while questioning how beliefs, narratives, and systems of thought influence our perception of the world.
Throughout her career, Shiori Eda has received several prestigious awards, including the Kume Prize (2005), the Ataka Prize (2006), the Spring Salon Prize, and the Mr. O Prize from the Tokyo University of the Arts (2008), the Taro Amano Prize at the Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi (2010), as well as the Natsunosuke Mise Prize from the TERADA ART AWARD (2015). These awards have helped to make her work known on the Japanese and international art scene.

Her approach, at the crossroads of contemporary figuration, symbolism, visual poetry, and reflection on the relationships between man and nature, gives her a singular place on the international art scene.
