Biography
Born in Maarssen, Emiliana Cordaro received her art training at the Utrecht School of the Arts. She has specialized in creating impressionistic oil paintings that capture the beauty of landscapes in a special way. Emiliana draws her inspiration from a variety of environments, ranging from charming Italian villages to vast European moors and seascapes.
More than just a simple representation of reality, her paintings above all capture the essence and atmosphere of the landscape. Emiliana transforms nature into an artistic composition of shapes, lines, colors and contrasts. Using vibrant pigments, she manages to create colors reminiscent of the later paintings of William Turner, for example.
Emiliana works primarily with a palette knife/spatula and by carefully applying the paint with it in multiple layers, she creates works of art with an intense atmosphere. The rich layers of paint create an impressive depth and texture, giving her paintings an almost transparent appearance, giving the landscape a magical vibrancy. Her paintings, like a good wine, sometimes require time to be fully appreciated. Gallery owner Juriaan Dijkman has known Emiliana for over 20 years now and says; "Despite the contemporary look of her work, Emiliana's paintings possess a classic charm, due in part to the magnificent rendering of her clouds and skies, which seem to have an almost Dutch character.
