Biography
Multidisciplinary artist Casper Faassen (1975) lives and works in Leiden, the Netherlands, where his passion for creating has been inspired by the country's rich pictorial history. His artistic journey began at a young age and has since evolved, mixing painting and various forms of contemporary art.
After reconciling painting, studies and part-time jobs, Casper Faassen made the decisive decision in 2002 to devote himself entirely to his artistic career. Known for his innovative approach, Faassen continually explores new materials, techniques and artistic disciplines. Although his primary focus is photography, Faassen's foundation as a painter is evident in the way his photographic works are constructed from multiple semi-transparent layers.
Faassen's work is often categorized into three main themes: landscape photography, portrait photography and movement. Her ReCollection series, a critical exploration of ownership and objects, delves into the idea of collecting objects that have already been collected before. To emphasize the element of time, many of his works are finished with a distinct layer of crackle, further highlighting his interest in history and transformation.
Casper Faassen's works have been presented at numerous international art exhibitions and fairs, including prestigious events such as Paris Photo, AIPAD New York and Photo London. In 2007, Faassen was honored with the Talent of the Year award at the national ""Artist of the Year"" competition in the Netherlands, and in 2019 he won the prestigious ALPA award at Photo Basel. His works are part of private and public collections, thus consolidating his status as a leading contemporary artist.
