Biography

Olumoko Moses is a contemporary figurative painter based in Lagos. He builds monolithic figures with heavy, visible tracks of paint, giving the human form a sculptural, unyielding weight. By rendering skin in monochrome, he strips away the distractions of skin color, race, and gender to focus on a shared, universal denominator: the human struggle. His work explores the dualities and complexities we often keep hidden: the pressure, the hope, the failures, the truth, and the grit required to navigate life. By using the recurring motif of the rose in different forms, Moses signals shifting emotions, realities, and states, creating a mirror for the viewer to confront the complexities of their own existence.
