Art is an extension of the social system, just like sociology, cultural studies, anthropology etc. No society - no art. It is a function of public sentiments. This explains the wierdness and confusion generated by the totality of contemporary art.
There is no point in waiting for serious innovation in art against the backdrop of the current chaos - innovation will simply be indistinguishable against its background. To find something fundamentally new, you need to stop thinking about something new.
