"Translating sound and silence into the tactile beauty of Carrara marble". His elegant forms emerge through subtraction—a process of listening to the stone rather than imposing a shape upon it.

Biography

Ege Kolcu (b. 1994, Istanbul) is a contemporary sculptor based between Carrara, Istanbul, and Bodrum. Born deaf, Kolcu approaches sculpture with a heightened sense of visual and tactile awareness, beautifully translating the invisible concepts of sound, silence, and human perception into physical form.

Working primarily with Carrara marble, bronze, and stone, his practice oscillates between abstraction and the human figure. His elegant forms emerge through subtraction—a process of listening to the stone rather than imposing a shape upon it. Kolcu’s work frequently explores thresholds: the tension between body and void, weight and suspension, presence and disappearance. Recurring motifs like open frames, hands, and architectural fragments suggest both containment and release.

Conceptually restrained and deeply rooted in material discipline, his sculptures resist spectacle, proposing stillness as an active force. Through surface, gravity, and proportion, Kolcu constructs spaces where silence becomes visible, and where form persists as the poetic trace of what has been removed.
