Biography
Born in 1982, Matthew Brandt is an American photographer. He received his MFA from UCLA in 2008.
Adopting a distinctly analogue approach, Brandt's practice has been inspired by the initial physicality of photography prevalent in the 19th century. The resulting large-scale photographs are the product of Brandt's unique method of incorporating the subject matter into his artwork; for his Honeybees series, Brandt included the bodies of the bees he photographed.
Solo exhibitions of Brandt's work have taken place across America, most recently in New York (2021) and California (2020). In 2015, Brandt was shortlisted for the Prix Pictet Award.
