Description
In this series of drawings, Eulogia Merle explores the wandering life she leads between Madrid and Buenos Aires. Her works capture the essence of always being in transit, the constant coming and going and the perpetual feeling of being on the move.
The works reflect a plural, fragmented life in constant movement. Fragments of a woman, ephemeral houses, legs that constantly advance and arms that embrace, extend and multiply, composing a visual story of arrival and departure.
Through these drawings, Eulogia shows us a life in constant construction, the architecture of a house that plants its foundations somewhere between two worlds. The work invites the viewer to reflect on the particularity of inhabiting multiple realities and, at the same time, none.
This visual journey allows us to connect with the artist's pilgrimage experience, where each fragment is a piece of a life in motion, a relentless search for identity and home that is resolved in a third identity: that of being a nomad.
Presentation
I am artist , illustrator and cultural activist. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and have been living in Madrid for over 20 years, where I work as an illustrator for renowned newspapers ("El País", from Spain and "La Nación", from Argentina).
In 2012, I began exploring my personal work, coinciding with my birth, intrinsically linked circumstances: raising my son, creating my home studio, and my personal work are all part of the same aesthetic gesture. I conceive each work as a game, where everything happens in real time.
I am interested in abstract figuration, the subtle balance where the forces of chance, the unconscious gesture and the sensitivity of drawing interact. I stop at the precise point, where the spectator's intervention is essential to complete the work, like an invitation to new starting points. My recurring themes are connections and identity.
