Presentation
Having graduated with a degree in Fine Arts, Olivier Picy first honed his skills in the demanding world of high-level graphic design.
In the 2000s, he collaborated as a freelancer with leading companies in the industry (Evian, Orangina, Côte d'Or), before making a name for himself in digital visual creation.
A pioneer of VJing, he notably designed video mixing systems for Laurent Garnier's sets at the Élysée Montmartre and for the Paris-Roller gatherings at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The break and the rebirth: After a decade in event agencies (American Express, La Poste), a major medical event—brain surgery—completely transformed his relationship with creation.
What could have been a hindrance becomes a catalyst: a slight fear of the blank page that could bring back doubt disappears, giving way to a creative impulse and tenfold visual acuity.
The Artistic Approach: Cognitive Art and Nature. Today, the artist is dedicated to exploring trees and cognitive art. His current works, created with pigment ink on thick paper (A4 format) over three to five hours, are striking for their density and almost photographic quality.
Through the obsessive repetition of archival-quality ballpoint pen strokes, he explores the complex structure of living things. His trees are not mere botanical representations, but neural networks projected onto paper, a visual metaphor for resilience and the connection between the human spirit and nature. The surgical precision of the stroke allows the eye to follow a mixture of continuous and discontinuous lines, attempting to find a balance between matter and emptiness.
