Acrylic, 24-karat gold leaf, metallic pigments, 3D sculptural relief on professional canvas (with USBox floating frame).
In “Golden Atlas", Natasha Tarasenko transforms the world map — one of humanity's most universal symbols — into a material object of sculptural beauty, weight and presence.
The continents are built in physical three-dimensional relief, hand-layered over multiple studio sessions using the most powerful professional acrylic pigments available. Their raised surfaces are then finished with genuine 24-karat gold leaf and intense metallic gold pigments — a process that gives each continent its own topographic light, shifting dramatically with every change in illumination.
The surrounding ground combines deep teal, oxidized copper red, warm sand and ivory in a palette that deliberately evokes cartographic heritage — the aged parchment of historical maps, the oxidized pigments of antique atlases — while remaining entirely contemporary in its material language and visual energy.
This work belongs to Tarasenko's investigation of balance and controlled texture — surfaces that are not static, but that respond, transform and deepen over time and light.
