"Be Still and Know" is the opening portrait in the Obiageri Series.
This expressive painting captures a woman resting in quiet confidence, her face illuminated with warmth, her body surrendered to peace. The work reflects the epignosis (deep, experiential knowledge) of Psalms 46:10: the certainty that God is, and that He guides the trajectory of her life with intention.
Through bold strokes and vibrant contrasts, the piece shows a calm that isn't passive, but spiritual. A stillness rooted in revelation. Obiageri begins here: a woman who knows she is held, led, and deeply loved.
Presentation
Utubor Shadrach Melvin in Nigerian visual artist. He uses the human figure to explore spirituality, emotion, and ideas around gender and identity. Through expressive brushstrokes, bold colour, and movement, he creates figures carrying tension, silence, and inner presence rather than perfection, inviting viewers into familiar but unspoken human experiences.
He holds a National Diploma in General Art and a Higher National Diploma in Painting from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and was mentored by Nigerian contemporary painter and draughtsman Edosa Oguigo. His work sits between emotion, spirituality, and form, inviting viewers into familiar but unspoken human experiences.
