Description
The Light of Life is the second portrait in the Obiageri series. The work reflects a woman formed by an intimate knowledge of Christ — one whose identity is illuminated from within rather than shaped by external circumstance. Inspired by John 1:4, the painting explores the inseparable nature of life and light, revealing a quiet radiance that flows from divine connection.
Through expressive brushstrokes and a soft, dreamlike palette, the portrait speaks of becoming: a gentle emergence into clarity, peace, and spiritual assurance. The figure does not strive to shine; she simply carries the life that produces light. This work continues the journey begun in Be Still and Know, moving from surrender into illumination.
Presentation
Utubor Shadrach Melvin in Nigerian visual artist. He uses the human figure to explore spirituality, emotion, and ideas around gender and identity. Through expressive brushstrokes, bold colour, and movement, he creates figures carrying tension, silence, and inner presence rather than perfection, inviting viewers into familiar but unspoken human experiences.
He holds a National Diploma in General Art and a Higher National Diploma in Painting from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and was mentored by Nigerian contemporary painter and draughtsman Edosa Oguigo. His work sits between emotion, spirituality, and form, inviting viewers into familiar but unspoken human experiences.
Sharach has exhibited in various places, including the Ecobank Lagos Pop-Up Museum; Deep Blue (2026). Yabatech Graduate Exhibition (2026). CraftVantage Emerging Artist Exhibition “Bold Stories, Sustainable Futures” (2026). Mydrim Affordable Art Exhibition (2025).
