Description
This artwork presents an abstract portrayal that masterfully uses a gradient of muted tones to create a mesmerizing visual effect. The piece is dominated by an arrangement that closely resembles the structural elements of window blinds, divided into two distinct yet harmonizing sections. The upper segment is characterized by lighter shades of earthy browns and greens, suggesting a gentle filtering of light. In contrast, the lower section employs darker, more somber tones, conveying a sense of depth and shadow. The artist's adept use of soft, airbrush-like techniques results in a seamless blend of colors, creating an ethereal quality that blurs the line between the material and the immaterial. This contrast between light and shadow, along with the meticulous gradient, suggests a commentary on perception, elucidating how light shifts reality and obscures clarity. The subtlety in the transition of hues from the upper to the lower part establishes a dynamic tension that is both captivating and thought-provoking. The texture of this piece adds another layer of intrigue, as the soft diffused lines give the impression of movement and fluidity, evoking the transient nature of light and how it interacts with everyday objects. This artwork demands the viewer's engagement, prompting an exploration of the interplay between light, shadow, and structure. Assertively combining meticulous technique with conceptual depth, this piece stands out as a unique exploration of abstract perception, making it a compelling addition to any contemporary art collection.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
