Description
"Prying Eyes" is one of Irish Galon's larger works, exploring societal perceptions of women in Filipino culture. The piece confronts derogatory labels often placed on women, such as "slut" and "hoe," particularly in the context of drinking and smoking. The artwork features 18 roses, symbolizing the transition into adulthood, yet it highlights the pervasive scrutiny and rumors that continue to affect women, intensifying the weight of shame as they navigate societal expectations. Through this powerful narrative, Galon invites viewers to reflect on the complexities of female identity and societal judgment.
Presentation
Irish Glori Galon is a Boholana artist now making waves in the local art scene. A would-be architect, she chose to set aside her lucrative career in favor of her art.
Irish has won the Grand Prize in PVAF, an honorable mention on AAP’s On-the-Spot competition, and is a three-time Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) finalist.
Irish continues to wow audiences with her surreal yet melancholic pieces that are an extension of her memory, the narrative of her past experiences, her hopes for the future, and the pulsations of her heart and soul.
