Description
This artwork presents a captivating bouquet of pink and white flowers, likely peonies, captured with bold brushwork that exudes a vivid and expressive energy. Enclosed within a transparent vase, their lush petals are accentuated by dynamic outlines, creating an impressionistic effect against a rich, brown backdrop. The composition is grounded on a striking tablecloth adorned with an intricate pattern of gold palm motifs set against deep blue. This vivid contrast between the floral arrangement and the opulent textile design adds a layer of sophistication, making the entire scene both vivid and opulent. The artist’s use of contrasting colors and bold outlines emphasizes the bouquet’s lushness and vivacity, transforming the simple subject into a visually arresting masterpiece. The juxtaposition of delicate flowers with the luxurious tablecloth pattern highlights the artwork’s rich texture and depth, inviting prolonged admiration and contemplation.
Presentation
The worlds of fashion, society and pop culture are explored through the illustrations of Manuel Santelices, a Chilean artist and journalist living and working in New York for the last 20 years. After writing stories about style, design, art and politics for a number of magazines, including the Spanish editions of Elle, Harper's Bazaar and Esquire, and being fashion writer in New York for Vogue Mexico and Latin American for 7 years, Manuel decided to focus his attention to illustration, painting mostly with watercolors the same characters and events he covered as a journalist.
