Caroline Leca

France Born in: 1974
Caroline Leca is from Orléans, was born in 1974 and was a DPLG architect; she has been drawing since she is fifteen and after some years of architecture and many relocations to foreign countries, she has devolved herself full-time to painting and illustration, sometimes sculpture. She is interested in creation processes, contemporary art, space, material, the transparency of moves. So she prefers scenography to architecture, the short-living to the permanent, quality to quantity… After two years spent in Djibouti in Africa, she attended Paris’ Fine Arts Ateliers (Jean-François Courteaux’s atelier) and the shared studios of the 100, rue de Charenton. From September 2010 to June 2011, she lived in Madrid, and shared a studio with Madrid artists in the district of Bellas Vistas. She lives and works today in Normandie.

Walking everywhere, the head up and the senses sharp, one is fed by life, by the world, here is what is certain. To communicate what one feels, there is art. I personally can’t sing, nor play music, for instance, but I like to paint on big canvasses and take very neglected and spontaneous pictures with a pocket camera, of life there, clouds, foliage, silhouettes, mist, changing lights, things we are not used to watching but that matter to me. I almost never process photos but I show my pictures to my paintings and my paintings to my pictures. Sometimes I do not do anything. And suddenly it is on, I am grasped by energy and the paintings wake up. I always need to carefully preserve the gesture and the spontaneity. If I think, it is over: I do not trust myself anymore, and the brain takes over, it is nonsense, there is no emotion. It is the danger. But I believe that without any risk, all this would be for nothing, eventually.
