Description
Lucy (2020) captures the intensity of a child’s concentration. Seated at a table with books and a pen, she looks outward while her hands continue their task. The figure is described with luminous skin tones and measured edges, the rest of the scene dissolves into midnight blues and soft scrapes, as if the eye had chosen what to keep and what to let fade.
The composition hinges on gaze and light. A gentle halo gathers around the head and shoulders, pushing the face into focus while the tabletop becomes a blur of papers, strokes and wiped paint. That selective clarity echoes how we actually remember: a person sharply, their environment as a feeling. Painterly rubs and faint incisions keep the surface alive without over-explaining the scene.
Balanced between realism and atmospheric abstraction, Lucy offers a psychologically resonant portrait with strong material presence. Commissions in a similar size and mood are welcome.
Presentation
“I try to simplify the form to the point when it feels that nothing else shall be removed and only the essential elements remain. I transfer my impressions and self-reflections about objects into my paintings. I express what I feel rather than how I see, often arriving somewhere between figurative and abstract art." Zakhar Shevchuk
Zakhar Shevchuk is a young professional painter and draftsman, he holds a master in arts degree from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (Kyiv, Ukraine) and now himself teaches at the academy. His artworks are held in public and private collections worldwide, furthermore, he often participates in various public projects, such as painting murals and other monumental installations.
With years Zakhar's artistic style moved away from academic realism (which always tended closer to expressionism) and towards the style that in somewhere on the edge between figurative art and abstraction. In many of his works, even those that may seem as fully abstract ones, you will find some elements that were intentionally added, aiming to trick your brain into believing that you have finally found something recognisable, something that matches the reality, but then you suddenly loose it, starting the search over and over again.
