Description
This artwork showcases a minimalist composition dominated by a central circle set against a divided square background. Rendered in monochrome, the piece relies on texture rather than color to create depth. The circle, expertly etched, contrasts against the background's segmented texture, highlighting the interplay between smoothness and rigidity. Each quadrant of the square displays a distinct, yet harmonious pattern, achieved through meticulously applied linear brushstrokes. This stark, tactile quality invites viewers to explore the subtle variations in light and shadow. The piece exemplifies a sophisticated blend of geometric abstraction and tactile craftsmanship, emphasizing purity and balance in design. Its restrained palette and precise execution make it a captivating study in form and texture, challenging the boundaries of minimalist expression.
Presentation
Tomo Sakurai is a Japanese artist born in 1987 who lives & works in Tokyo, Japan. She had an awakening of her talent in pencil drawing as a teenager. It was the beauty of the shadow that completely fascinated her. After she studied graphic design at Yokohama College of Art, she went ahead to the path of the black and white by self-study. Her body of work is seemingly dark and peculiar, but it portrays light, hope, essence and desire.
