Description
Xavier Marabout's work is essentially based on the production of pictorial mashups. In other words, Marabout strips distant artistic universes to merge them together (artistic movement called Strip Art). Thus, by borrowing from the comic strips of his childhood and from the painting of the great masters which fascinates him, he has gradually developed a style where line and parody are omnipresent. In particular in his series: Tex Avery – Picasso where he organizes the meeting of the famous libidinous wolf and the women painted by the Spanish artist… Or, in his series: Hergé – Hopper or Marabout uses the voyeuristic and wait-and-see look of the American painter to imagine a sentimental and tumultuous life in Tintin. In short, through these cultural collisions, Marabout now claims the synthesis of genres.
Presentation
Marabout was born in 1967 on Friday the 13th! A lucky day because he showed from a young age real talent for drawing and painting.
He held his first exhibition in 1984 at the gallery Goguet in Evreux. But he followed a very different path at the beginning. In 1990, after doing some scientific studies, he became a sales engineer for a medical laboratory, always painting and organizing private exhibitions in parellel to his job.
In 2006 he completely changed his course by enrolling at the House of Artists. Since that day on, he concentrates solely on painting. His work is based in his pictorial mash ups. By using cartoons and some of the paintings of the great masters he developed a style where strokes and parodies are omnipresent. Locomotive of strip-art, he claims today the synthesis of genres.
