Description
This artwork, an intriguing fusion of color and form, portrays a seated figure with an arresting use of mixed media. The figure is segmented with distinct pastel shades—orange, yellow, and blue—creating a vivid contrast against the stark white backdrop. The meticulous pencil outlines add depth and definition, while the figure's casual pose, holding a cylindrical object, introduces an element of narrative mystery. The artist's loose yet intentional strokes contribute to a sense of dynamism, inviting the viewer to ponder the story behind the subject. The minimalist setting accentuates the figure's unique color palette, evoking a sense of modern abstraction. This piece stands out for its bold exploration of color theory and its ability to blend figurative representation with abstract elements.
Presentation
Celso Castro is a reference in Colombian Caribbean plastic arts who has drawn, painted, sculpted and photographed penises for more than four decades.
In his works, Castro exalts the male genitalia, putting into tension the limits imposed by the sex/gender system that are part of an unquestioned patriarchal and phallocentric order. Most men
The ones he portrays are inhabitants of the Colombian coast, also constructing alternative ways of conceiving Latin American identity.
By breaking taboos on corporality and male sexuality, his work has been censored on many occasions due to public accusations of immorality and pornography.
