Description
This artwork is a dazzling swirl of primary colors and striking geometric patterns. The composition instantly captivates the viewer with its profusion of shapes and bold use of chromatic contrasts. At the center of the canvas, an imposing lighthouse sits majestically. Its white rectangular structure is pierced by oval and triangular shapes, which add an intriguing visual texture and reinforce the impression of solidity and constant vigilance. The black details on the lighthouse amplify the contrast with the surrounding bright colors. Behind the lighthouse, red flashes organized in radiating beams evoke powerful beams of light, emphasizing the lighthouse's function as an essential landmark for sailors. At the bottom left of the work, a red sailboat cuts through the waves, surrounded by a swirl of water and electric blue splashes. The dynamic movements of the waves and the sinuous curves create a sense of perpetual motion, accentuating the vitality of the maritime scene. In the corners of the painting, additional elements such as small colorful boats and multi-colored triangular patterns add a dimension of depth and complexity. These elements appear to float in the abstract space, contributing to a harmonious dispersion of shapes and colors across the canvas. The expert use of dots, lines, and patterns reinforces the unity of this rich composition. Each element, while distinct, finds its place in a coherent assemblage, demonstrating the artist's meticulous and creative control of detail. This work is a bold celebration of maritime life and human ingenuity, imbued with a vibrant aesthetic that attracts and holds the viewer's eye.
Presentation
Mike JACOBS was born on August 2, 1950 in New York City (USA), where he grew up and currently resides.
Born and raised in an urban environment, he started drawing in his early twentieth year after a friend gave him a Rapidograph pen.
“When I was studying art in high school, it didn't really speak to me, but this Rapidograph opened a door. It felt like an extension of my hand,… and I started to draw, letting the pen guide me. "
Self-taught artist, he then builds his style through his trial and error, drawing inspiration from the artists he appreciates the most: Picasso, Miro, Leger, Stuart Davis, Chagall, Richard Lindner, Kandinsky ;
“I think that I share with these artists a primitive bond, made of enthusiasm, spontaneity, and desire for colors, with, above all, the pleasure of creating; because luckily for me, I have been able to draw like a child since I was 20 years old. "
His style flourishes and asserts itself as his experiments with colors, shapes and composition evolve.
His creative imagination is inspired by current events (scenes from the world of music, sport, nature, personal concerns, international events ...), which his style frees from all academic constraints, first resurfacing a liberated expression. born from his subconscious, before his work was restructured in a perfect balance of chromatic and graphic composition.
His current materials incorporate colored pencils, gel pens and acrylic paint markers on a black cotton board, which brings out the bright contrasts and graphics of the composition.
Perfectly in line with the Free Figuration movement, Mike JACOBS is now represented permanently and exclusively in Europe by the Galerie Plurielle in Sète.
