Description
Do you like modern art? 2024 by Roberto Fonfría. Mixed Media Collage (acrylic, china marker, archival polyester film, thread) on Bristol acid free paper. Ships flat
This artwork is a captivating collage that merges vintage aesthetics with modern abstraction. It features a black-and-white photograph of suited men, whose identities are obscured by beige torn paper fragments, creating an aura of mystery and anonymity. The strategic placement of these paper pieces introduces texture and depth, while splashes of yellow offer a striking visual contrast. Text elements interlace seamlessly, suggesting a narrative or dialogue that invites deeper contemplation. The deliberate layering and interplay of various materials not only challenge perspective but also evoke a sense of unfinished history, encouraging viewers to fill in the gaps. This piece is a testament to the power of mixed media to transcend traditional boundaries, making it a compelling exploration of identity, time, and memory.
Presentation
Roberto Fonfría lives and works in Miami, Fl. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1969. Roberto Fonfría creates stories through a random mix of found images, photographs, drawings, and words. He combines these elements and builds layers and textures using acrylics, common objects, and collage. His work explores human behavior and social rules with a critic eye and humor, touching on personal themes such as dreams, fears, and memories. The images come from old magazines, advertising and photo albums collected at thrift stores. By extracting them from their natural context, he reconstructs them by adding references to popular culture as well as common phrases and insights that come from his Venezuelan childhood.
