"Rite" by Ed Potapenkov is a deeply symbolic and layered artwork that fuses traditional and modern elements to convey a complex narrative. The painting combines powerful imagery: lions, traditional dancers, and remnants of war machinery. The lions, symbols of strength and resilience, appear contemplative, while the dancers in traditional attire evoke a sense of cultural heritage and community. Below, the submerged military equipment and mines hint at conflict and loss, contrasting with the celebratory aspects above. Potapenkov seems to express a poignant reflection on Ukraine's history, resilience, and the ongoing tensions between war and cultural identity. The glitch-like effects and vibrant colors further emphasize the modern chaos intertwined with tradition.

Presentation

Born in 1968 (Dnipro, Ukraine)

1983 to 1987 - Dnepropetrovsk Art School named after E.V. Vuchetich (teachers L. Antonyuk, G. Cherneta)

I have a higher education. In 1995 he graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (workshop of easel painting of Professor V. Shatalin)

I live and work in Kiev. (Ukraine)

Since 1990 he has participated in many group and personal exhibitions both in Ukraine and abroad.

From 1993 to 1996 he was a member of the art association "Cold VEL".

Permanent member of the creative group "Squat on Olegovskaya".

Works are in private collections in Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Great Britain, Spain, Netherlands, USA, People's Republic of China (Hong Kong), Singapore.

With the help of art I strive to change myself. In my work, I try to raise current topics of our time associated with the problems of globalization, ecology, the collision of the human personality and society, self-identification.

In each work I bring my own reality, a separate story. Inviting the viewer to a visual dialogue, I urge him to decide whether this is a fake world or a real one.

I take part in various joint projects and coloborations.

In addition to painting, I am engaged in sculpture, installation, and often I combine these areas with video and sound.

I am in constant search, I believe in myself and in art.

... the unconcealed virtuosity of the smear of Edward Potapenkov, the ability of several brush strokes to convey the most prominent angle of the body, the bulge of a capricious shape .... The contents of the artifact are not at all costing if their good intentions are not confirmed by an adequate level of formal decision: not enough, but it is absolutely necessary condition for the existence of a master artifact.
