Description

Magnetic Shapes No. 1, Acrylic and sand on linen canvas, 2024, walnut finish wooden frame,

The language of Marie Amédro's paintings is similar to a silent writing, imbued with an inner mystery. Marie Amédro does not seek to faithfully reproduce the reality that surrounds her, but rather to feed on it in order to better detach herself from it. Through her sketches, she lets her mind wander, guided by the curves of a plant, the play of shadows or the subtle shapes of an everyday object. These elements of her environment are only starting points, fleeting inspirations that, once transcribed, lose their connection with the concrete world to become refined, almost abstract forms. This creative process, free from any figurative constraint, is an invitation to the imagination.

Sand, the artist's favorite material, also undergoes a metamorphosis. Long relegated to the role of final element, applied flat to play on transparencies or emphasize a shape, it now acquires a central status. With the creation of a new technique, the sand border, Marie Amédro reinvents the way in which this material is deployed on the canvas. From now on, it is around sand that the composition is organized, the shapes and colors coming to exalt it, rather than enslaving it to a secondary role. This evolution marks a turning point in her creative process, where the quest for relief, so dear to the artist, is interwoven into a new harmony.

Color, in Marie Amédro's work, is revealed to be a vital breath, a secret pulse that animates her compositions. To understand the depth of her chromatic choices, we must go back to the origins of her inspiration: a wonder for the metabolism of trees, discovered during a reading that marked a turning point in her artistic career. From then on, her paintings seized the symbolism of nature, adopting hues evocative of the essential elements of life. Red, burning earth, carries within it a nourishing power. Blue, liquid and fluid, embodies water, this primordial source of all existence. Green, vibrant with chlorophyll, pays homage to plant life, while solar yellow embraces light and its infinite possibilities.

Getting the right shade is for Marie Amédro a balancing act, a sensitive quest where each nuance becomes an invitation to feel. In her work, color is not only a visual element, it is a breath, a breath that crosses the canvas and makes it vibrate with its own energy. The monochrome, which she often explores, becomes a space where the subtlety of a single shade reveals all its richness. Her colors have the delicacy of capturing a moment of freshness, a light breeze, a silent peace. They are not only an aesthetic choice, but an emotional search, a way to calm the mind and soothe the eye.

This year, as doubts and questions ran through her, Marie felt a growing need for softness. Her palette, once more vibrant, gradually transformed into a symphony of pastels. These softer, almost whispered hues undoubtedly reflect this quest for serenity, this need to find a form of refuge in color.

Presentation

Rising from the current of geometric abstraction that she links to an ecological sensitivity, Marie Amédro draws her main source of inspiration from the Tree. It was a reading that sparked this curiosity about trees: The Secret Life of Trees, by Peter Wohlleben. From this reading were born the first geometric sketches. “The inner workings of the tree remind me of a flawless organization, which is why I like to play with shapes, symmetry and verticality to create. But shapes have little meaning without color. The combination of the two brings the final touch to the works: the idea of movement, energy and vitality. I also use collage to showcase the bark of the tree which protects the sap from the outside environment. "

For Marie Armédro the tree has a fragile, intelligent and mysterious side that breaks with the image of strength and vigor that sticks to its bark!

Painting, collage or drawing constitute his artistic universe. His intention is to bring his ideas to life by plastically transposing them onto wood, canvas, paper, cardboard ... His seemingly minimalist works carry a story full of meaning. “I like elegance in art. I like that the lines are perfectly straight, that the shapes are correctly identifiable and that the colors do not fight to find their place on the canvas. But I also need my works to not just look good. I need them to mirror an idea or a story and arouse the viewer's curiosity by inviting them to interpret. "
