Description

Work created by Sezam for the exhibition Les Bleus de St-Laz (April 24 to 27, 2025, Espace Thorigny, 75003 Paris)

This work is a unique reproduction of a graffiti made on this mythical model of Saint Lazare. The resin plates, entirely handcrafted in an artisanal manner, represent an exact reproduction at scale 1 of the original SNCF Z6400 model from a cast of the original train. Each plate is approximately 118cm high and approximately 58cm wide, and is made with acrylic resin applied in 3 fiber layers for optimal resistance.

This modern art piece stands out for its bold approach, using graffiti as a means of artistic expression. The wavy patterns present on the initial texture of the train lend a unique dimension, encouraging the viewer to examine the composition from various perspectives.

This combination of urban elements and abstract techniques depicts the convergence between the worlds of street art and the gallery, capturing the intensity and dynamism of contemporary urban art. This work attracts the viewer with its dynamism and aesthetic audacity, captivating from the first impression.

Sezam

France  • 1974

Presentation

Sezam was born in the North-Eastern Paris suburbs in 1974 and discovered graffiti in 1991 from his friends. In 1992, he gets a taste of how incredible graffiti painting can be, when he tags the interiors of the suburban train RER A.

1993 is a decisive year for Sezam as he paints his first graffiti on a train of the Sait Lazare line. In 1994 he discovers European graffiti in The Netherlands, Belgium and Great Britain. In 1995 he founds a crew with his "vandam" friends, "D77", and they paint close to 1000 trains until 1998 when Sezam has to do his military service. Sezam refines his style and takes part in some festivals in France and abroad.

Despite his late arrival on the graffiti scene, he is one of the main artists of vandal graffiti, and managed to never get arrested. As he says himself "I went from my neighborhood to the New York subway, from the police station to the Grand Palais, I worked in most European capitals, graffiti saved my life".
