Description

One only has to enter Pierre-Luc Poujol's studio, nestled in the heart of a lush forest, to immediately understand his closeness to the plant world.

A source of inspiration for the artist that he transcribes in painting as well as in sculpture.

Each of Pierre-Luc Poujol's works is the concrete expression of a limitless quest, blurring the lines between traditional techniques and avant-garde approaches. For him, creation becomes a constantly evolving field of exploration.

Beyond the projection and dripping that are his own and which give his painting its singularity, Pierre-Luc Poujol also uses his own organic and unconventional tools in his creations: tree branches, plant ashes, charcoal, thus allowing him a more intimate connection with his subject.

The artist's painting reflects a genuine desire to become one with his works. Without actually touching them, he has a tenacious desire to give them meaning while offering everyone a great deal of freedom to appropriate them.

“Painting is accepting loss" is how Pierre-Luc Poujol defines his artistic commitment. For him, painting represents a risk, a path, an adventure and translates the concrete form of a free and intuitive expression that does not seek to achieve a goal but to constantly explore new territories.

Presentation

Pierre-Luc Poujol began his brilliant studies in applied arts, graduating top of his class (First Prize in Drawing, First Prize in Perspectives, First Prize in Sketching).

After dividing his time between France and the United States for several years, he permanently set up his studio in the South of France, near Montpellier, in 2018.

Influenced by the peasant roots of his farmer grandfather and nurtured by the spiritual environment of his pastor father, Pierre-Luc Poujol developed a sensitivity to the world and the nature that surrounds him very early on.

Recognized for his work and artistic commitment, he has won numerous prestigious awards. He was notably awarded the international prize awarded by UNESCO for the bimillennium of the Nativity.

Pierre-Luc Poujol also maintains close ties with museum institutions. He notably presented "Voyage à Giverny" at the Paul Valéry Museum in spring 2020 as well as "Arborescences" in 2024, his latest monographic exhibition bringing together a collection of more than 70 paintings and wood sculptures on the theme of trees and forests. From June to October 2025, Pierre-Luc Poujol is this time taking over the Musée du Protestantisme with a new version of this exhibition, enriched with new works specially created for the occasion.

A committed artist, in spring 2022 he became the first ambassador of the French NGO Coeur de Forêt, to which he lends his voice and his tools in favor of the preservation of our biodiversity.
