Description
An old playing card, torn and stained, yet still in the game.
In "Two Pairs", Papayon uses oil on canvas to blend symbolism and satire. The worn card doesn't just tell a story of time—it dares you to laugh at it. In Mexican slang, hits with double meaning: boldness and blunt honesty.
The image confronts machismo, aging pride, and the quiet dignity of those who've been through it all — and still show up to play.
Presentation
Papayon (Roberto Fernando Salmon) is a Latin American contemporary artist whose work challenges comfort and embraces contradiction. His mixed media pieces — often combining encaustic, oil, cyanotype, and reclaimed materials — explore themes of resilience, trauma, and spiritual rebellion. Driven by symbolism and emotional rawness, Papayon believes art's power lies in its ability to unsettle, ignite, and reflect what we often ignore. His studio is based in Houston, TX, with cross-border visibility in the U.S. and Mexico.
