Splash 72, 2024

Mark Hellbusch

"Splash 72" is a luminous, contemporary abstract painting created on a 100 cm (39 inch) round canvas. With its radiant blue background and expressive, sweeping gestures, the piece radiates clarity, energy, and balance. At the center of the composition, fluid white lines loop and arc in an almost calligraphic movement—surrounded by bursts of yellow, green, orange, and red that punctuate the space like color echoes in motion.

The visual language of is spontaneous yet deliberate. Using acrylic and lacquer paints, I worked with dynamic, physical techniques: dripping, throwing, and spinning. The process allows the paint to respond to gravity, gesture, and surface—resulting in layered, organic patterns that unfold with rhythm and depth. Despite the boldness of the marks, there is lightness here: a sense of floating structure, of carefully composed motion.

The circular format reinforces this sense of continuity. Without a fixed top or bottom, the viewer is invited to explore freely, allowing the eye to move in spirals and arcs. This open, non-linear design creates a meditative visual space, where energy doesn't clash—it flows.

belongs to my ongoing series—an exploration of movement, spontaneity, and the emotional presence of color in space. Each work in the series is a record of physical gesture and color interaction, distilled into a single, vibrant moment.

Perfect for modern interiors or architectural spaces seeking a bold yet harmonious statement, this piece is ideal for collectors who appreciate abstraction rooted in gesture, energy, and purity of form.
