Splash 49, 2024

Mark Hellbusch

"Splash 49" is a powerful, large-format circular painting with a diameter of 120 cm that immediately catches the eye with its dramatic tension and luminous color on a deep black background. It appears like an explosion—a colorful impulse spreading in all directions from an inner center. The black canvas creates not only contrast, but an almost cosmic depth in which the colors literally glow.

The composition is radically dynamic: fine lines of color in turquoise, yellow, pink, orange, white, and violet practically shoot across the surface, while dense layers of color and rhythmic drips suggest movement and direction. The effect is energetic, almost musical—as if a visual soundscape were unfolding. Despite its expressive intensity, the work remains precise and controlled. Every stroke, every curve contributes to the overall tension.

Here, too, I work with acrylic and lacquer paints, which are applied using throwing, dripping, and rotating movements. The round canvas reinforces the effect of a centrifugal process—an eruption of color that expands in all directions. The glossy colors on the matte surface create a tense material contrast that captures the light in different ways.

is a true statement—it speaks of movement, energy, and change. It's ideal for large, modern spaces where art can be not just decorative but also meaningful. This work represents pure creative power and emotional impact—a focal point with a captivating effect.
