METAPHORIC PLASMATIC
Leo Labelle's "Metaphoric Plasmatic" is a striking example of biomorphic abstraction, where organic fluidity meets symbolic complexity. The composition pulses with life, evoking a visual metaphor of cellular or emotional activity on a magnified, dreamlike scale. The composition is dominated by fluid, plasmatic forms—translucent, layered, and bordered with ripple-like contours. It creates the sensation of viewing something alive, moving under a microscope or through an altered state of perception. Circular motifs and nucleus-like forms float within this fluid, some with eyes or eye-like shapes, reinforcing the idea of semi-sentient, evolving entities. Vivid reds, rich ochre, and deep blacks contrast against lighter blues, pinks, and whites. This tension between biological warmth and cosmic coldness may represent a clash—or harmony—between emotion and intellect. The dotted lines (blue, white, and black) serve as pathways or energetic streams, as if charting unseen connections or flows through the “plasmatic" matter.
The title “Metaphoric Plasmatic" invites reflection on the transformation of intangible feelings or ideas (metaphors) into quasi-physical, visual substances (plasma). It's as if emotions or thoughts have been made bodily—raw, evolving, and barely containable.
Presentation
Leo LaBelle is an artist of both international and local fame. He has toiled with his paints, brushes, pencils, pens and sculptural implements for over fifty years. Leo's artworks have been exhibited from the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada to the East Coast of the United States in New York, as well as in Europe, South America and the Orient.
His work can be found in both local and international, private and public collections. Among the many awards Leo has won for his work are a First Prize Award in a juried show at the Burnaby Art Gallery and First Place Prize & Award in the sculpture category in the New York Art Horizons International Art Competition
