The oil painting on cardboard titled "Old Street of Venice" transports the viewer into the heart of one of the world's most romantic and historically rich cities. With each brushstroke, the artist evokes the mood and character of Venice's timeless streets — narrow, winding, and full of stories whispered by the centuries-old walls. The composition focuses on a quaint alleyway nestled between aged buildings, their facades glowing in warm, sun-kissed tones of ochre, sienna, and soft terracotta. These colors suggest a city bathed in the late afternoon light, where the golden sun filters through small passageways and reflects off smooth, worn stones. The buildings lean slightly inward, as if engaged in quiet conversation. Crumbling plaster, faded shutters, and weathered balconies hint at the passage of generations, each leaving behind a mark. The textures are rendered with expressive brushwork, allowing the viewer to almost feel the roughness of the bricks and the smoothness of polished door frames touched by countless hands. The narrow street disappears into the distance, pulling the viewer deeper into the scene and inviting exploration. Subtle details bring the painting to life: an open window with lace curtains fluttering gently in the breeze, a wrought iron lamp extending from a wall, casting a soft glow as daylight begins to fade, and perhaps even a glimpse of laundry hanging on a line stretched between buildings — a familiar and intimate detail of Venetian life. A sense of quietness pervades the alley, as though the city is taking a gentle breath between waves of tourists and the bustle of daily routine. Hints of greenery emerge in flower pots perched on windowsills or climbing vines that add softness to the stone surroundings. At street level, the suggestion of a small café or storefront offers a glimpse into daily life, where neighbors greet one another, and time slows. The reflections of the light and shadows on the cobblestones add a rhythm to the piece, guiding the eye and emphasizing the structure and history embedded in the very ground.
