The Oil painting Cardboard titled “City with a river" is a poetic depiction of an old European town, alive with history, charm, and the vibrant interplay between architecture, water, and human presence. Rendered with bold brushstrokes and a palette that combines warm earth tones with cooler blues and greens, the composition transports the viewer into the heart of a timeless urban landscape. It is a vision that merges the beauty of the built environment with the fluid, ever-changing reflections of the river, creating a scene that feels both grounded in reality and touched by the dreamlike qualities of memory. At the center of the painting, a graceful arched bridge spans the river, its brickwork painted in deep shades of red and brown. The bridge serves as both a literal and symbolic link, connecting the two sides of the city while also drawing together the themes of human connection and continuity across generations. On the bridge, small figures are depicted, walking, conversing, and pausing to take in the view. Though impressionistic in their rendering, they bring a sense of scale and animation, reminding us that the city is not only about architecture but also about the lives lived within it. On either side of the river rise elegant buildings with red-tiled roofs, their facades glowing with warm ochres, siennas, and soft creams. These structures, some with towers and spires, reflect the historical richness of the town, suggesting influences of medieval or Renaissance architecture. The tall towers, one capped with a pointed spire and another with an ornamental dome, stand as guardians of the city, their silhouettes breaking dramatically against the stormy yet luminous sky. The artist has painted the windows and walls with textured, layered strokes, giving the impression of centuries of history etched into the surfaces. The river itself becomes a central element of the composition, a mirror that reflects the sky, the bridge, and the buildings. Its surface is animated with dappled colors—greens, blues, browns, and shimmering highlights—that capture the movement of water under shifting light. Along its edge, small boats are moored, their forms painted with dark strokes and subtle highlights that suggest quiet readiness, as though waiting to ferry passengers or goods. These boats, humble yet essential, reinforce the river's role as a lifeline of the city.
