Description

The oil painting on Cardboard titled "Fog in the Autumn Forest" captures the ethereal stillness of a woodland scene veiled in morning mist. This composition immerses the viewer in a transitional moment between light and shadow, warmth and chill, clarity and obscurity. Executed with bold palette knife techniques and expressive brushwork, the painting is a masterful study of atmosphere and seasonal change. On the right side of the composition, tall dark trees dominate the scene, their trunks painted with confident vertical strokes in deep purples, indigos, and touches of burgundy. The richness of the bark contrasts strikingly with the golden yellow foliage above, which glows like lingering fire in the canopy. The artist's choice of a saturated yellow-orange palette for the autumn leaves draws the eye upward and provides a sense of lingering warmth amid the deepening cool tones of the forest. To the left, the scene softens considerably, where the mist rolls in like a silken curtain. Here, the color palette shifts into a muted spectrum of lavender, lilac, dusty pink, and soft gray. Tree trunks, barely defined, seem to fade into the distance, suggesting depth and mystery. The atmospheric perspective is beautifully rendered, as the details dissolve into fog, creating a dreamlike transition from the tangible to the intangible. At the center of the composition, where light pierces through the fog, a diffused glow emerges—perhaps the sun rising behind the mist, or the last hint of light before dusk. This area is painted in pale peach and ivory tones that feel both cool and luminous. The surrounding mist reflects this glow, suggesting suspended moisture in the air and evoking a palpable sensation of crisp, humid air brushing against the skin. The forest floor is layered with fallen leaves in shades of ochre, sienna, umber, and rust, thickly applied with a knife to give a rich texture underfoot. The earth tones ground the scene and anchor the eye, offering a tactile counterpoint to the softness of the mist. The fallen leaves carry the memory of summer's warmth, while the shadows hint at the approach of winter.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
