Description
SERB 1215
The Oil painting on Canvas titled “Calm of a sea morning" captures a moment of serene stillness along a quiet coastline, where the rhythmic pulse of the sea harmonizes with the timeless presence of rocks and boats. The composition is built on contrasts between solidity and fluidity, between the weight of the earth and the openness of the sea, yet all of it is bound together by the muted light of a morning sky. With thick, expressive brushstrokes, the artist constructs a tactile landscape that invites the viewer to almost feel the salty air, the dampness of the shore, and the rugged textures of stone and wood. Dominating the left side of the canvas is a weathered wooden boat, resting firmly on the shore. Its hull, painted in subdued tones of deep blue and muted gray, carries hints of brighter pigments that shimmer faintly as though catching the light. The boat, tethered and still, suggests rest after labor, a vessel that has seen many journeys but now sits in silence, embodying the essence of early morning tranquility before the day's activity begins. The ropes holding it add a subtle narrative of care and protection, hinting at the human presence behind the scene, even if no figures appear. Behind the boat rises a mass of foliage, rendered with bold, impasto strokes in vibrant greens, pale whites, and purples. These trees and bushes form a lush contrast to the stony backdrop and lend vitality to the scene, their textures bursting outward with energy even in the stillness of dawn. To the right, the rocky formation rising from the water acts as a natural monument, imposing yet softened by shades of violet and lilac, its craggy surface merging with the hazy atmosphere of morning light. This rock stands as a sentinel, an enduring witness to countless mornings, and provides a grounding focal point to balance the fluid horizon of sea and sky. The sea itself stretches outward in layers of blue, gray, and pale turquoise, its surface broken by rocks and subtle ripples of waves. The artist's brushwork conveys not the turbulence of water but its calm persistence, the gentle undulation of the tide that mirrors the breathing of the earth. The sky above is a symphony of grays and soft lavenders, heavily textured with thick strokes that suggest drifting clouds dispersing under the morning light. It is neither heavy with storm nor radiant with full sun, but somewhere in between, creating an atmosphere of quiet anticipation and reflective calm.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
