To return, 2025

Richard K Blades

Richard K Blades' To Return is a captivating artwork that captures the vastness and drama of a seascape, where earth and sky blend in a mesmerizing dance. The painting's top half is dominated by a turbulent sky, filled with swirling clouds rendered in soft pinks and deep grays, suggesting an impending storm. The horizon is a thin, dark line, separating the tumultuous sky from the calm sea below. The sea, painted in deep blues with hints of white, mirrors the sky's intensity. The foreground features rugged, textured brushstrokes in earthy tones, evoking a sense of rough, coastal terrain. The artist's deft use of color and movement creates a striking contrast between the turbulent sky and the serene sea, drawing the viewer into the scene's emotional depth. This artwork stands out for its dynamic interplay of light and shadow, capturing the raw power and beauty of nature.

Richard K Blades is an expressive English landscape painter in the English Romantic tradition.  He follows in a long line of artists such as Turner, Constable, Seago, Daubigney and Courbet who chose the sky, sea and land as their source of inspiration.  Painting with oil on board his works use thick paint to capture the crash of a wave, the setting sun, the whistle of a gentle breeze or roar of a blowing gale.

The span of centuries matters little. Technology has advanced, society has shifted, but the landscape is always there, as something eternal, the ever-changing muse, always present, yet never the same.
