Description
The North presents a mesmerizing seascape under an expansive, tumultuous sky. Broad, dynamic brushstrokes in a palette dominated by purples and blues convey a sense of movement and drama with the textured cloud formations suggesting an impending storm. A faint blush of pink hints at a fleeting sunset or sunrise. Below, the horizon divides the painting, with the calm, dark blue sea contrasting starkly against the richly textured land, which appears rugged and untamed. This piece exemplifies the power of nature, highlighting the Richards skill in conveying mood and atmosphere through bold color choices and brushwork, creating an intense visual experience.
Richard K Blades is an expressive English landscape painter in the English Romantic tradition. He follows in a long line of artists such as Turner, Constable, Seago, Daubigney and Courbet who chose the sky, sea and land as their source of inspiration. Painting with oil on board his works use thick paint to capture the crash of a wave, the setting sun, the whistle of a gentle breeze or roar of a blowing gale.
The span of centuries matters little. Technology has advanced, society has shifted, but the landscape is always there, as something eternal, the ever-changing muse, always present, yet never the same.
Presentation
Richard was born in 1978 and raised on the border of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. His passion for painting began whilst living in Cornwall in his mid twenties. Having grown up in East Anglia, much of his work is based on and inspired by the skies and landscapes of the area. Along with the landscape, he is also a still life painter, fascinated by the quiet corners of studios and how light falls upon objects and plants.
Richard, who lives and works in North Norfolk, says of his work
“I am primarily an expressive landscape painter working in the English Romantic tradition.
I feel a deep connection to the landscape and the artists who also chose the sky, sea and land as their source of inspiration. Turner, Constable, Seago, Daubigney and Courbet are personal favourites of mine. The gaps of generations and hundreds of years matter little. Regardless of what has changed in this world, the technological advancements and societal shifts, the landscape is always there, as something eternal, the ever-changing muse, always present, yet never the same. ”
Richard’s work is regularly exhibited across the UK and is held in private collections, worldwide.
