Description
Baraku (Addiction) confronts the weight of human longing—the cycles of desire that both sustain and consume us. Orioye Bukola layers figures in restless motion, their silhouettes caught between repetition and entanglement, a visual rhythm that mirrors the pull of dependency. The palette shifts between alluring vibrancy and muted undertones, reflecting how addiction seduces while quietly eroding. The Yoruba word baraku evokes excess and attachment, and within this work, it becomes a metaphor for the struggles that bind individuals and societies alike. The figures do not stand alone; they are fused into one another, suggesting how addiction extends beyond the self, shaping relationships, communities, and collective memory. For collectors, Baraku (Addiction) is more than an artwork it is a cultural meditation on desire, power, and loss. It holds the tension of beauty and burden, making it an evocative piece for reflection in both personal and public collections.

In my work, I strive to embody the timeless wisdom encapsulated in the slogan "simplicity is the highest sophistication." Inspired by the elegance found in simplicity, I seek to distill complex concepts and emotions into their purest forms. Through minimalistic compositions and restrained aesthetics, I aim to evoke profound responses and ignite contemplation within the viewer.
My creative process is guided by a commitment to stripping away excess, leaving only the essential elements that resonate deeply with the human experience using colors. By embracing simplicity, I invite viewers to engage with my work on a visceral level, encouraging introspection and fostering connections between the self and the universal.
