Description
SERB 1237
The Oil painting Canvas titled “Boats on the shore" captures a tranquil and intimate scene of life near the water, where human presence is suggested not through figures, but through the quiet arrangement of boats resting on the sandy edge of the river. The painting is bathed in vibrant colors and energetic brushwork, presenting a vision that is both serene and alive with detail. The viewer is invited to linger on the textures, contrasts, and the sense of calm this composition evokes, as though one has stumbled upon this hidden corner during a quiet afternoon walk. At the heart of the scene lies a small wooden dock, weathered and uneven, extending into the calm, deep blue waters. Its rough planks lead the eye outward, toward the tranquil expanse, suggesting the endless journeys that begin here. Resting along the dock and on the shore are several boats, painted with striking combinations of red, white, and hints of gray. Some are overturned, suggesting they have been pulled ashore after long days of work or leisure, while others lie patiently, waiting for the moment they will once again be set afloat. Their presence speaks of human activity—of fishermen, rowers, or villagers—yet the absence of people leaves the boats as silent storytellers of lives lived in harmony with the river. The artist makes brilliant use of color to bring the scene alive. The water is rendered in shades of violet and indigo, shimmering with light, evoking both depth and quietude. Its surface contrasts with the sandy bank painted in warm tones of ochre, beige, and earthy pinks, creating a balance between cool and warm that feels both natural and inviting. Against this backdrop, the boats themselves stand out vividly: the red hulls glow with vibrancy, catching the sunlight, while the pale whites soften the composition and introduce a feeling of calm stability. These contrasts are heightened by the expressive impasto technique, where thick strokes of paint create texture and dimension, making each surface—wood, water, sand—feel tangible and real.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
