Description

The Oil painting on Cardboard titled “Silent cover gently covering the earth" evokes a deeply atmospheric and poetic vision of the natural world caught in a delicate, fleeting moment of stillness. It is a canvas where light, color, and texture converge to create not merely a landscape but a living presence, whispering with serenity and a quiet reverence for the passage of time. The artist's choice of colors and their masterful impasto technique infuse the scene with emotional depth, balancing between calm introspection and the grandeur of nature's rhythms. The first striking element in the composition is the horizon, bathed in warm amber and golden tones. A line of trees, rendered in shades of russet, ochre, and burnt sienna, rises like glowing embers against the cooler background. Their reflection is gently mirrored in the calm water below, softening the strength of their fiery hues with muted ripples of violet, mauve, and blue. This delicate blending suggests the interplay of day's end light—perhaps the last glow of a sun retreating behind the thickening clouds—casting its blessing on the earth before surrendering to night. The sky above dominates much of the canvas, painted in layers of smoky gray, lilac, and patches of pale yellow light. Its sweeping, textured strokes capture both weight and softness, embodying the idea of a “silent cover" enveloping the land. The artist's deliberate, heavy brushwork gives the impression of clouds in motion, as if pressing down gently over the horizon, yet without menace—more like a blanket of stillness wrapping the landscape in calm. There is no turbulence here; instead, the clouds act as guardians, slowing the pace of time, reminding the viewer of nature's cyclical embrace. The water in the foreground plays a pivotal role in anchoring the composition. Painted with a cool palette of indigo, lavender, and muted violet, it reflects the shifting moods of the sky and the fiery brilliance of the distant trees. Streaks of golden and pale blue impasto shimmer on its surface, creating the illusion of light dancing briefly before fading into deeper, quieter tones. The water acts as both a mirror and a mediator—absorbing the energy of the land and sky, uniting them into one harmonious breath.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
