Description
In Dead Hornet, Igor Galan turns a humble subject into a luminous allegory of life and transience. The composition centres on a lifeless hornet, painted with exceptional precision and warmth. Its golden wings and amber tones seem to vibrate against the soft yellow background, radiating both serenity and fragility.
Galan's mastery of light recalls the still lifes of the Baroque period, yet his treatment is resolutely contemporary – stripped of context, the insect becomes a metaphysical object, a meditation on time and the beauty of endings. The smooth wooden surface enhances the intimate character of the painting, inviting close contemplation.
Igor Galan (born 1973, Ukraine) is known for his emotionally charged realism and poetic symbolism. His works balance meticulous observation with quiet philosophical reflection. Dead Hornet belongs to this lineage – a modern memento mori in miniature form, where mortality and beauty coexist within a single luminous frame.
