Grand contre-jour doré, 2013

Eric Winzenried

This abstract artwork captivates with its vibrant and contrasting horizontal bands of color. Each layer, ranging from luminous yellow to deep red, seems to subtly blend into the next, creating a harmonious gradient effect. The delicate and nuanced texture of the colors evokes a twilight landscape where sky and earth merge. A creation on the border between figuration and abstraction, this luminous painting directly references the landscape, even if it is imaginary. The highly vegetal center of the painting possesses an uncommon strength and recalls Rembrandt's impasto technique in the treatment of lighter areas. This central section extends toward a horizon without a true limit, becoming intensely solar. The vaporous complementary color that appears next leads lightly and elegantly to a lighter, more ethereal plane. This sensation is all the more powerful because the foreground of the canvas, with its warm tones, is both powerful and earthy. A unique painting that testifies to a remarkable mastery of color and composition. Here, color becomes an expression of joy and optimism.
