Description
This powerful and evocative work pays homage to the iconic Angel of the Waters statue, erected in the heart of Central Park atop the Bethesda Fountain. Through a mixed-media technique combining acrylic, collage, and stencil, the artist reinterprets this New York symbol with a contemporary and spiritual approach. The contrasting tones of blues, grays, and greens immerse the viewer in an atmosphere that is both celestial and introspective. The meticulous details of the wings provide vibrant texture and a sense of movement, while the solemn expression on the face exudes an aura of mystery and authority. The masterful use of light and shadow accentuates the facial features and feathers, creating striking depth. The angel's captivating gaze seems to follow the viewer, adding a mystical dimension. The subtle interplay of cool colors and contrasts lends the work an atmosphere that is both peaceful and powerful. Filigree inscriptions enrich the texture of the canvas, suggesting an intimate and poetic narrative. This artwork offers a modern interpretation of a classical figure, revealing the artist's skill in merging tradition and contemporary style. A work that transcends place and time, somewhere between urban homage and mystical vision.
Presentation
Véronique Baleste, a native of the Bassin d’Arcachon, is an artist whose career is marked by a deep quest for meaning and expression. After studying sociology and a career in teaching, she allowed a long-buried passion to emerge: painting. For sixteen years, this practice has become a vital necessity for her, an intimate language, a way of feeling and celebrating life in all its richness.
About her artTo paint to exist For her, painting is a vital act. It is her way of breathing, of feeling, of saying the unspeakable. Each canvas is an exploration of her being, an attempt to capture the intensity of a moment, an emotion, a fragment of truth.
The human at the core She paints portraits because she paints the human being. Each face is a story, a unique vibration. Through her works, she seeks to reveal the soul behind the features, to celebrate the raw and authentic beauty of our humanity.
A free and lively techniqueAcrylic is her ally. Its fast drying time allows her to work in successive layers, to superimpose materials, to give way to instinct. She mixes in stencils, collages, textures, to enrich her paintings with a tactile and vibrant dimension.
The inspiration of Street art Street art transforms the city into an open gallery. It inspires her with its spontaneity, its expressive force, and its accessibility. She transposes this raw energy into her work, in search of an art that dialogues with the world.
Writing as an inner voiceText has imposed itself in her canvases as a parallel voice. First through quotations, then through her own words, it becomes a breath, a whisper, a scream. It adds a layer of meaning, an inner voice that prolongs the pictorial gesture.
Painting and transmitting A teacher at heart, an artist out of necessity, she builds bridges between these two vocations. As in the classroom, she seeks to awaken, to make people resonate. Each work is a life lesson, a sharing of emotions, an invitation to reflection.
