Her name evokes the Marvel warrior and the cult record label whose emblem she wears on her forehead—a fragment of vinyl as a marker of identity. Karine Langevin (KJL), a French artist born in 1972 in Dijon, develops a unique pictorial practice based on resin and mixed media techniques. A graduate in Fine Arts, she has been refining a personal visual language since 2005, nourished by Pop Art aesthetics and by a constant exploration of materials, light, and color.
Her work explores the surface's capacity to condense emotion. Each piece revolves around a specific theme and unfolds as a visual narrative. The compositions, rich in detail and symbolism, invite the viewer to a gradual, almost immersive reading, where hidden elements emerge like clues along a path.
In her studio in Gif-sur-Yvette, south of Paris, the artist shapes colorful and translucent surfaces, enlivened by glossy reliefs that capture the light and create a dialogue between depth and brilliance. The portrait, and more specifically the female figure, is at the heart of her work: a strong, expressive presence, imbued with meaning and identity.
