Description

The Oil painting Cardboard titled "People are relaxing on the river" is a vivid celebration of warmth, light, and the simple joys of life by the water. The artist has captured a sunlit riverside scene with remarkable energy, using bold impasto brushstrokes and a rich palette that allows the viewer to feel the vibrancy of a summer's day. The surface of the canvas is alive with texture, as thick layers of paint mimic the tactile qualities of sand, water, and foliage, offering not only a visual experience but an almost tangible one. In the foreground, the sandy beach dominates, painted in warm golden and ochre tones that radiate under the sunlight. Patches of bright yellow and green suggest reflections of light and the lively movement of people across the shore. Scattered figures, rendered with quick yet expressive strokes of red, pink, and earthy hues, animate the scene. Some sit in relaxed postures on the sand, basking in the sun, while others stroll along the beach or stand near the water's edge. Their simplified forms emphasize mood and motion rather than detail, conveying the carefree essence of leisure. To the left, the calm surface of the river stretches across the composition, painted in cool shades of blue, gray, and muted violet. The water reflects the sky and nearby figures, adding depth and a sense of fluidity to the piece. The contrast between the soft, rippling brushwork of the river and the heavier, textured application of paint for the sand highlights the natural differences between these elements. The viewer can almost feel the coolness of the water against the heat of the summer sun. The central and right portions of the painting are framed by lush greenery. Tall, full trees dominate the scene, painted with dense, overlapping strokes of green, blue, and yellow. The thickness of the paint creates a layered, three-dimensional effect, giving the impression of shade and shelter. Beneath the trees, smaller groups of people gather, finding relief from the sun in the cool shadows. The umbrella, painted in pale yellow and white with accents of green, is a striking detail that reinforces the atmosphere of summer recreation and comfort.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
